The Science and Art of Intelligent Practice

This 5-day module will allow the experienced teacher to delve deeper into the intricacies of designing an asana class while incorporating; pranayama, pratyahara, dharna and dhyana. You will elevate your understanding of how compensation, observation and preparatory exercises play a role within the sequence of a class. We will also discuss how to incorporate basic ayurvedic principles.

This module has 30 CEC. These CEC may be applied to a 300-hour or 500-hour accreditation through Tejas Yoga.

This training is limited to 15 students.

Prerequisite: Must have 200-hour accreditation through an established yoga studio

Technique Training/Practice: 7.5 hours

Morning practice will emphasize:

  • Practice of asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha, meditation,
  • A specific direction of mobility of the spine
  • Effective preparatory poses to encourage the fullest range of
    motion in a specific direction
  • Pranayama enhancing the energetic effect of the mobility
  • Mudras and bandhas that support and/or balance the overall
    quality of the class
  • Appropriate compensation poses/exercises
  • Meditation and visualization techniques

Theory/ Philosophy: 7.5 hours

Topics will include:

  • Choosing effective preparatory postures
  • Dynamics of compensation/balancing
  • Deconstructing more complicated poses
  • Anatomy of a yoga class
  • Incorporating pranayama and meditation

Methodology/ Practicum: 15 hours

Afternoon session will include:

  • Practice of asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha, meditation,
  • A specific focus or dynamic
  • Establishing a thread within class
  • Techniques to make smooth transitions within the class
  • Lessons in following through with initial theme while adjusting
    for students’ needs

Additional Hours will include:

  • Discussion/Q&A
  • Assignments
  • Reading
  • Homework
