Julia Mellow

Julia first began her practice of yoga at the same time she was winding down a long career as a chief financial officer.  Expecting she had signed up for some pleasant stretching classes, she was, almost immediately, surprised to experience the profound impact of the practice on her sense of well-being and peace of mind. Building on a growing curiosity about yoga and the mind-body connection, Julia joined the 200-hour teacher training program at Tejas Yoga in Chicago, studying with the two gifted teachers who co-own the studio, Jim Bennitt and James Tennant.

 Julia’s Classes:

Wednesday 9am-10am Gentle

Saturday 10am-11:15am Foundational

She has since completed the Tejas 500-hour certification, as well as several Yin Yoga certifications with Paul Grilley and Bernie Clark plus many workshops with other leading teachers around the country.   She has also continued to explore more deeply the roots of yoga through dozens of classes on its history and philosophy, as well as on the Sanskrit language of the early yogic texts, primarily through Yogic Studies and the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies.Julia’s classes are designed to balance appropriate levels of physical challenge with breath awareness and mindfulness. She especially loves teaching students of all ages and physical capabilities who are just beginning to discover the incredible benefits of the practice, both on and off the mat.
