This is a 200-hour training:

Self-Practice: 50 hours
In-class Observe and Assist: 50 hours
Anatomy: 30 hours
Private Training Sessions: 22 hours
Small group Training: 30 hours
Practice Teaching: 8 hours
Reading/Homework/Assignments: Average of 2-3 hours per week



Is this training for me?

The Foundational-level Apprenticeship Course is a great choice for anyone who has been studying yoga for at least one full year. If you’ve had no formal teacher training, have a genuine interest in developing the ability to teach group classes, and are willing to devote 12 months to completing this training, this course is for you! With a fairly flexible training schedule, allowing for 1-2 weekend days per month for small-group training, our program suits many lifestyles. Expect to reserve 2-3 hours per week for reading and assignments in addition to the classes you’ll be attending.

Personal Development

Our hope is to not only provide you with a deep understanding of yoga and its related disciplines, but also a sense of confidence in who you are as a teacher. In addition to teaching you how to lead a coherent and effective class, Jim, James, and Jenni will thus guide you in cultivating your strengths, uncovering your potential, and habituating you to your own innate abilities.

Develop a Personal Practice

  • Conceive an effective personal practice suitable for your needs

  • Revise the practice as you evolve

Establish a Daily Routine

  • Begin observing the most beneficial diet for your constitution and/or imbalances

  • Understand how to eat seasonally according to ayurveda

  • Establish and refine your daily routine throughout the year



Benefit of 1:1 Sessions

We want you to feel confident teaching your own classes by the end of this program. While that includes the technical elements of preparing, leading and holding the space for a class, we will also help you develop and find your own voice as a teacher and advise you on how to get your teaching career started. These sessions allow us to work with each individual personally and co-discover one’s own innate strengths and growth opportunities.

Classroom Management

  • Discovering your individual voice

Class Planning and Teaching

  • Learn intelligent sequencing for group classes and private sessions

  • Learn different types of adjustments and when to apply them

  • Applying Ayurvedic knowledge in a classroom

Overview of Basic Poses

  • Understand the intricacies of basic poses

  • Expand the language around teaching poses and dynamic sequences



practical application

You are expected to attend 30-35 group classes with Jim, James and/or Jenni. During the first part of the training you will be observing the classes. Once you’re ready, you will start assisting the teacher, slowly taking on more and more responsibilities, until you will lead your own practice classes. Jim, James, and Jenni will be available for any questions you might have after observing and assisting group classes.

In-class and Training

  • Observe and assist 30-35 classes of Jim and/or James

  • Verbal and Kinesthetic student assistance

  • Practice teaching opportunities

  • Small-group practicum sessions

Practice Class

  • Teach 5 community classes under supervision

  • Receive direct feedback



Camaraderie and Small-Group Learning

Together, we will share a 12-month journey of self-discovery and collaborative learning. In addition to attending group classes together, you will also attend small-group learning sessions throughout the year. All sessions take place on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. Exact times and dates will be announced after group consideration.

  • Class Etiquette and Ethics

  • Class Planning and Sequencing

  • Subtle Body

  • Living in Harmony with Nature Course

  • Practicum Learning

  • Business Management

    These trainings are designed to evoke discussion, hands-on learning, and peer-support. Many participants ask pertinent questions and the topic discussion tends to be more lively and informative. The cohort dynamic creates a safe and fun environment to learn from one another along the guidance of the teacher.


ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

Your training will cover:

  • Basic Skeletal and Muscular System

  • Nervous and Organ Systems

  • Key Physiological Principles

  • Applied Lessons to Postures

  • Fundamental Processes

READING AND ASSIGNMENTS

Several written and reading assignments will be required throughout the year. Reading enhances knowledge, vocabulary, critical thinking, and memory, while written assignments develop communication skills, improve comprehension, and provide a way to synthesize information. These assignments are curated to enhance your ability to articulate and process new concepts.
