The Sanskrit word Pancha means five and klesha, can be translated as affliction or poison. In The Yoga Sutras, Patanjali refers to Ignorance (Avidya), Egoism (Asmita), Raga (Attachment), Dvesa (Aversion), and Fear of Death (Abhinivesa) as five causes to suffering and an impediment to liberation.

Join James for 20 minutes of gentle movement and 20 minutes of internal practices. The remaining time we’ll focus on exploring the Pancha Kleshas. As we refer to the ancient texts and our own personal experiences, we’ll reveal how these mental and emotional states impact our daily lives both in gross and subtle ways.

James will share personal experiences he’s had regarding the kleshas and practices that can help us view them as opportunities for spiritual growth, mental clarity, and emotional well-being.

Keep in mind, this topic is vast, oftentimes complicated, and evokes a unique personal journey which cannot be completed in the framework of a 2-hour workshop. The time we spend together is designed to inspire the internal work yoga philosophy timelessly encourages us to do. By heightening our awareness of how the kleshas affect us, we’re more equipped to attend to the boundaries which may be suppressing our potential and unravel conscious and unconscious patterns that no longer serve us.

Time for contemplation and writing will be included.

To participate, a donation to one or both organizations below is suggested.
