The Language of Anatomy V: The Pelvic Girdle

with Rich Logan

The pelvis serves myriad purposes, from support for the viscera to being the stabilizing structure from which the legs explore the world. The pelvic girdle is a matrix of checks and balances. For every degree of imbalance below the pelvis, something must compensate. Pelvic subtle mobility is essential in movement, and, if challenged by either inflexibility or hypermobility, the rest of the body suffers.

As we learn about the innate anatomy and kinesiology of the hips, we’ll begin to assess and address common imbalances within the pelvic girdle.

Rich will teach concepts, exercises, and techniques we can practice to maintain healthy hips, and to correct or manage any imbalances in postures. We’ll also discuss how imbalances within the pelvic region not only affect our physical health but also our mental well-being and emotional balance.

This workshop is primarily lecture-based, and includes a few experiential exercises to help learn and understand the movement of the pelvic girdle in yoga poses. Dress for comfort and for movement, and expect an engaging lecture that connects the practical construction and movement of the body with its subtle and energetic qualities.
